In 2003, BOE HYDIS TECHNOLOGY CO., LTD. developed the Advanced Fringe Field Switching (AFFS) technology, which offers unlimited viewing angles, ultra-low power usage, and natural color characteristics. AFFS development resulted from an upgrade of the conventional one-pixel design rule. BOE HYDIS applied 3-D optimization of liquid crystal (LC) electrodynamics, creating the world's first LCD to eliminate high-aperture resin and other enhanced films. Since then, AFFS has become one of the leading technologies for TFT LCDs, with more than 70 percent of the global tablet PC market. Last year, BOE HYDIS granted a license to Hitachi Displays, Ltd., for use with an original In-Plane Switching (IPS) technology.
