Hitachi Brings Together Group's Technologies in Blu-Ray Drive

With Blu-ray Discs (BDs) starting to penetrate the market, Hitachi, Ltd. has developed the GBW-H10N BD drive (Fig. 1). This drive makes use of several element technologies owned by the Hitachi Group. The GBW-H10N uses an optical pickup from Hitachi Media Electronics Co., Ltd., a signal processing LSI chip set from Renesas Technology Corp., media from Hitachi Maxell, Ltd. and drive technology from Hitachi-LG Data Storage, Inc. Thus, through synergies with various companies in the Hitachi Group, Hitachi has developed a distinctive optical disc drive that is especially reliable and easy to use.
