Half-year financial results from Japanese electronics manufacturers showed favorable sales of consumer electronics including flat TVs and mobile phones. Meanwhile, sales of white goods continued to grow thanks in large part to sales of high value added products. Production of displays and semiconductors increased, reflecting the increase in volume of consumer electronic products. Sales of industrial systems also grew steadily, supported by investments in plants and equipment in Japan and abroad. Manufacturers remain cautious about possible results for the whole year because of uncertainties about how corporate strategies and sales of key models will affect results in coming months.
