With the theme "For the Love of Imaging," Canon Inc. exhibited at Photokina 2006 the EOS Series of digital single-lens reflex (SLR) cameras, the IXUS Series of compact digital cameras (called IXY cameras in Japan) and the Selphy Series of photo printers. Canon calculates that the market of digital SLR cameras was 1.3 million units in 2005 and that it will expand to 1.7 to 1.8 million units in 2006. Canon continues to secure a 50 percent share of this market, according to Makoto Fukuchi, Director, European Image Communication, Products Management, Consumer Imaging Business Unit, at Canon Europa N.V.
