Show of LCD Technologies Illustrates New Moves in FPDs

Dimensions are expanding for thin-film transistor (TFT) LCDs these days. Key equipment manufacturers and component suppliers confirmed this trend by introducing solutions for eighth-generation (Gen8) facilities during FPD Taiwan 2006 in Taipei from June 14 to 16. About 25,000 visitors came to the event. Applied Materials, Inc. chose FPD Taiwan to introduce its newest plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD) system for Gen8 substrates. Now the company is shipping the system to its customers in Japan. The company, which has participated in the TFT LCD market since 1992, says 500 of the 600 systems it has sold were PECVD systems.
