The home theater market is taking on a new vigor in line with significant growth in demand for large-screen flat TVs, which in turn has been buoyed in Japan by the start of terrestrial digital broadcasting services. Home theater systems combined with flat TVs, emerging as a single product category, can provide highly realistic sensations for viewers. Home theater systems combine imaging products, such as TVs and projectors, with sound systems that reproduce music in surround sound. Home theater first caught on in the United States where people especially like watching movies and where homes are relatively large. Then the popularity of home theaters spread to Japan, Europe, China and other parts of Asia. Before the appearance of DVD players, the market for home theaters in Japan was made up mainly of people who were especially interested in electronics or movies.
