Japanese Panel Makers To Expand FPD TV Business

With the flourishing demand for FPD TV, Japanese panel mak-ers are stepping up their opera- tions this year, eyeing the large, high-definition (HD)-compatible FPD TV market as orders escalate buoyed by the ongoing shift to HD broadcasting. They are also boosting efforts to meet demand for FPD TVs in time for the World Cup games in Germany in June. Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd. (Panasonic) will stretch its Ibaraki and Amazaki factories to produce 100 million panels per year starting FY2007. It will also reinforce its global marketing, with the VIERA line at the core. Within the year, Panasonic plans to release a 103-inch HD PDP TV, the world's largest.
