Camcorder Makers Shift to HD, Diversify Recording Media

In the camcorder market, an increasing number of products with new forms of media are appearing. Besides MiniDV camcorders, the market now offers models that use DVDs, hard discs, or memory cards, or a combination of these media.rnAt the same time, more camcorders tailored for high-definition (HD) are becoming available, especially as HD TVs are becoming increasingly popular.rnThe Japan Electronics and Information Technology Industries Association (JEITA) estimates global demand for digital videocassettes (DVCs) to rise from 16.87 million units in 2006 to 18.23 million units by 2011. Though the growth rates have been running high in emerging markets, such as China and Central and Eastern Europe, they have remained flat in the developed markets, such as Japan and North America. Under such circumstances, the trends favoring HD images and diverse media are gaining momentum.
