Panasonic's PDP TV Plant in Shanghai Switches Focus to HD

Panasonic Plasma Display (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. (PPDS) is shoring up its plasma display panel (PDP) TV lineup in line with the expanding Chinese market for flat-panel TVs and the accelerating shift to digital technology and higher resolutions.rnPPDS, based in Xinjinqiao Industrial Zone, Pudong Xinqu, Shanghai, and headed by Akihiko Osakabe, Managing Director, is China's first integrated plant for production of PDP TVs. Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd. and SVA (Group) Co., Ltd. hold 51- and 43-percent stakes in PPDS, respectively. Established in 2001, PPDS first merely assembled TVs using panels imported from Japan. Then, in February 2003, the company started to roll out 42V-inch standard definition (SD) panels with a nionthly production capacity of 5,000 units.
