While Japanese manufacturers have led the industry in terms of technology and market creation, solar cell manufactures in Asia have been actively investing in production facilities recently, thus triggering global competition. With the tight supply of silicon, which are the main materials of cells, manufacturers are purchasing solar cells and panels before their production plants become operational.
