Panasonic has developed the UniPhier System LSI tor mobile phones using 45nm process technology, a single chip integrated with a communication function that works in Japan and other countries. Its shipment started last July. Compared with the 65nm UniPhier System introduced in December last year, the 45nm UniPhier comes with 45 percent more compact chip area and reduced power consumption of 25 percent. The gate density of the newly developed LSI system is 1,510kG/sq.mm, which is almost twice that of the conventional product. The 45nm UniPhier is a high integration chip that integrates approximately 280 million transistors into a single chip.
