Greater Nagoya Seeks Greater Notice, International Ties

Greater Nagoya, in the center of Japan, comprises an economic region with a 100km radius encompassing the City of Nagoya, which has a population of 2.2 million people. Greater Nagoya spans Aichi, Gifu and Mie prefectures. Home to one of the largest concentrations of manufacturers in the world, Greater Nagoya also plays host to many global leaders in high-technology fields, including those in the automobile, machine tools, electronic component, new materials, manufacturing, information and communications technology (ICT), service and biochemical industries. These outfits constantly seek ties with innovative overseas companies. Among the region's ample physical infrastructures are the Chubu International Airport, Nagoya Port, highways and railroads. Likewise, the natural environment is rich in water resources including seas and rivers. The gross domestic product (GDP) of this region is US$459 billion, 1 percent of the world's GDP. This places Greater Nagoya 17th in the global GDP ranking, outpacing Belgium and Turkey.
