The installation of photovoltaic (PV) power systems has been gaining ground particularly in the European market. With this as the general trend, new market entrants have emerged, and stiff competition has reached global scale. To keep their present market lead, Japanese manufacturers are pouring out considerable amount of investments in order to increase production not only of polycrystalline silicon (Si) solar cells, but also of thin-film Si solar cells. Thin-film solar cells use only 1/100 of the Si material used in polycrystalline. Leveraging on the long track record in technical development that these manufacturers gained over the years, they focus on boosting their market shares as they offer high-quality products.
