As the Beijing Olympic Games approaches, transition to digital broadcasting and digital cable TV (CATV) has been gathering steam in China. However, manufacturers that target the Chinese broadcasting market take that real business opportunities lie in the "post Olympics." Recently, the Chinese government announced that it will air high-definition (HD) terrestrial digital broadcasting in eight cities in China including Beijing, only during the Olympics. This announcement heightened broadcasters' interests in digitization, and in the shift to HD broadcasting. In China, 40 million households received digital TV broadcasting, including CATV as of August 2007.
