MEMS To Grow Steadily; RF Devices Emerge as Winner

The microelectromechanical system (MEMS) market is projected to double its value at the chip level from 2007's level of US$7.1 billion to 2012 to US$14 billion, according to Yole Developpement, a market research and strategy consulting firm based in France. This value represents a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 14 percent for the 2007 to 2012 period (Fig. 1). "The new MEMS market forecast of Yole shows a steady growth for the coming years albeit some applications will really boost the market," noted Jean Christophe Eloy, CEO of Yole Developpement.
