With the ongoing shift to TVs with larger screens and to high-definition (HD) images, interest is growing in home theaters, also called home cinemas. These are audio-video (A/V) systems designed to deliver movies at home with the same image and sound quality as that offered by a conventional cinema. Home theater systems include a large-screen display (here, all screens 40 inches and larger are considered large) and multi-channel speakers. The first home theaters required expensive and massive equipment for reproduction, including front projectors for displaying video on a large screen and speakers for reproducing surround sound.
