Hitachi Demonstrates 100GE Frame Transmission System

Hitachi Limited has made a prototype frame transmission system that uses 100Gb Ethernet (100GE), the next-generation high-speed optical communications standard. Using 40GE/100GE load modules called K2, developed by Ixia K.K., Hitachi effectively demonstrated lOOGbps communications by frame transmission in interconnection testing.rnThe transmission and reception of optical signals at 100Gbps were confirmed in earlier testing. In this testing endeavor, however, Hitachi was able to demonstrate a 100GE interconnection using Ethernet-standard frame-level data formats. It is a significant development toward practical applications of 100GE.rnThis technology was introduced in the network solution seminar of the Hitachi uValue Convention 2009 (Tokyo International Forum in Yurakucho) held on July 22 and 23.
