Sanyo Answers Solar Energy Demand with More HIT Cells

Responding to the expanding market for photovoltaic power generation systems, Sanyo Electric Co., Ltd. is putting its Heterojunction with Intrinsic Thin Layer (HIT) solar cells at the center of the company's plans to increase solar cell production. At Shimane Sanyo Electric Co., Ltd., one of the company's solar cell production bases, the company will spend more than ¥7.8 billion (US$82 million) in installing a new 90MW production line, which is scheduled to start operations in FY2010. That production in combination with production at the Hama Plant in Nishiki, Kaizuka City, Osaka prefecture, will raise the company's cell production capacity to 600MW.
