Electrochemical capacitors, because they operate well at low temperatures, have served as substitutes for batteries. In recent years, new uses have been proposed for these capacitors to take advantage of their favorable characteristics: They use few substances harmful to the environment, they continue to operate over long charge/discharge life cycles, and they resist deterioration during rapid charging and discharging.
