Most components in electronic devices are classified as active, passive, or mechanical components. Capacitors, together with resistors and coils, fall into the category of the passive components and play a supporting role for active components, such as ICs and LSIs. Typical capacitors used extensively in the latest digital equipment include ceramic capacitors, aluminum electrolytic capacitors, and tantalum capacitors. NEC TOKIN Corp. introduced the world's first chip tantalum capacitor.
