Today, with rising concerns about global warming, the world's attention is increasingly focused on issues related to the environment and energy. In Japan, this attention has led many to favor the wider use of photovoltaic (PV) power generation systems. To stimulate development of such systems, subsidies for installing residential PV power generation systems have been reinstated. As another stimulus, a system has been in place since November 2009 for purchasing electricity generated by PV systems at fixed prices. Scientists in various countries around the world are conducting research and development into various kinds of renewable energy. Of these various energy sources, expectations are especially high for PV power generation, which makes use of sunshine, a resource radiated all over the earth.
