R&D Eyes Next-Generation Organic Solar Cells

To achieve a low-carbon society, the expanded use of renewable energy is becoming increasingly necessary. Among the various types of renewable energy sources available, there is high expectation that photovoltaic (PV) power generation will play a central role in the energy requirements of Japan. By 2030, the Japanese government targets to install PV panels in 14 million households, which is approximately 30 percent of all standalone houses. To achieve this goal, the government has started implementing subsidies for the installation of residential PV panels and a system for purchasing surplus electricity generated by PV power generation at fixed prices.
