The FY2017 Defense Appropriations bill has been released amidst significant discussion on ensuring future US military readiness and force needs, and electronic warfare remains at the forefront of many of these conversations. Among items of interest to the EW community in the current FY17 Defense Appropriation are the following: Aircraft Survivability Equipment was approved for $89.4 million ($22 million increase from DOD request for "modernized radar warning system"); $9.6 million for Survivability Counter-measures, and $41.6 million for the Common Missile Warning System (CMWS). $131.4 million was approved for communication security (COMSEC), $3.2 million for the EW Planning and Management Tool (EWPMT), and $1.7 million for the Family of Persistent Surveillance Capabilities.
