The paper discusses the application of the physical theory of diffraction (PTD) to the problem of calculating the effects of terrain on glidepath antennas. The terrain is modelled as connected flat conducting plates resulting in a multiwedge model. The scattering from the surfaces of the model is evaluated using a physical optics (PO) technique whereas the scattering from the edges of the surfaces is obtained from the PTD equivalent currents. The blockage effects are included using double scattered fields. The method of stationary phase is used to simplify the surface integrations in the direction transverse to glidepath for radiated fields. The computed results for the fields and course deviation indication compare well with those obtained using the uniform theory of diffraction.
