Business communication researchers, particularly in managerial/organizational communication, may benefit from emerging studies in social science research and in qualitative methodology. These new approaches, combining concepts and analytic techniques from linguistics, rhetorical studies, literary criticism, social theory, narrative theory, and cultural studies, as well as theories derived from the philosophy of science, are re-energizing the field.
