DAVID HUTTO teaches medical and business writing at Juniata College. He previously taught writing to engineering students, and his most recent research has focused on the interaction of text and visual material in different professional fields, including the article presented here. His current research is in medical rhetoric. JO MACKIEWICZ joins the department of English at Auburn University in August 2008, where she will teach editing and document design courses in the Master of Technical and Professional Communication program. Her research interests are politeness in positive and negative evaluations and construction of expert status in online reviews. Recently, she published articles in Technical Communication and Journal of Business and Technical Communication. She also recently became Editor-in-Chief of IEEE Transactions on Professional Communication.
