Issues of power are always fascinating, especially with regard to technical, scientific, and professional communication. Normally, we assume that those with power are those who own or manage the enterprise; and to a large part, this is true. Employees are constrained by a variety of issues which might abrogate their access to and use of communication power. These issues include status of employment, nondisclosure agreements, personal obligations such as family, mortgages, and so on. Each presents a different set of challenges for the exercise of power within the communication environments of professions.
