Two review articles open Volume 53, Issue 3, of JELIS. In the first, Jenna Hartel frames the disciplinary identity and intellectual history of LIS by presenting three fictional "introductory talks." The talks, developed through an examination of seminal writings by Jesse H. Shera, Howard D. White, and Marcia J. Bates, are written to "welcome" new students to the LIS discipline.
