Recent evidence in cattle and mice has suggested that 1, 25-dihydroxyvitamin D_3 may stimulate T-lymphocyte differentiation pathways responsible for humoral im- munity. The use of 1, 25-dihydroxyvitamin D_3 as an ad- juvant for an Escherichia coli J5 vaccine was tested. Then midlactation cows received J5 vaccine and were revaccinated 6 wk after the first vaccine administra- tion. Five of these cows were given 200 μg of 1, 25- dihydroxyvitamin D_3 , in addition to the primary vacci- naton, and they received an additional 200 μg of 1, 25- dihydroxyvitamin D_3 1 wk after the primary vaccina- tion.
