Nucleation behavior of cage strucutre of carbon in the presence of charge

摘要

The charge is produced in abundance in the processign condtion of the cage structure of carbon. Considering lwo ionization eneryg and hgih electorn affintiy of carbon clusters comred with those of signle atm or moleculr, the carbon clsuters are expected to be charged in such ionizing conditons. The cnawrege is suggested to affect the nucelation behavior of aca cage structure of carbonat least in two respects. Frist, the Coulomb energy term, which is newly introudced by charge, can make the enrgy well in the curve of the free energy versus number of atoms. In combination with the suitable driving force for pecipitaion of condiensed carbon, the energy well will make stable the carbon clsters containing certain number of atoms with respect to both shrinking and growing, increasign the lifetime of the cluster of constant size. Second,t he minimization of Coulomb energy fvors he lose structure of carbon while that of the surface energy facors the comact structure. iN terms. of Cobulmob energy, the cage srucutre is facored over the comac one as the cage strucutre of soap bubble is favored by the electrical double laeyr on the water surface. These effects of charge were examined based ont he classicla Thomson equation.
