Discussion of 'Knowledge-Based Simulation Modeling of Construction Fleet Operations Using Multimodal-Process Data Mining' by Reza Akhavian and Amir H. Behzadan

The authors are to be commended for introducing new methodology for a multimodal (position, weight, and angle) process data mining, fusion, and reasoning algorithm capable of extracting operational knowledge and automatically updating the corresponding discrete event simulation model. Their methodology incorporates a statistical data point clustering algorithm based on the &-means method to extract knowledge about activity durations, resource interactions, and site layout. Their developed method was applied to laboratory-scale experiments, and the results were in line with the actual project performance.
