Complexity is everywhere and everything is complex. The term complexity means that a phenomenon is not only a sum of its participating processes or components, but also that new things emerge as a result of interaction between constituent parts. Complexity also means that we cannot deduce the behavior of entire phenomena just by analyzing their components separately. We want to consider only those systems in which complexity emerges as the result of interaction between autonomous parts. Collective systems are almost always complex, even if the individual behavior of their components is extremely simple.
