A novel approach to oxygen saturation (SpO(2)) detection via audio I/O of handy phone is proposed. Addressing the narrower bandwidth of audio port which limits the data rate significantly, a highly efficient bipolar audio coding algorithms is correspondingly proposed, leading to high compression ratio however keeping high signal to noise ratio (SNR) of the photo-plethysmogram (PPG) signal. Moreover, a morphological method is employed to eliminate baseline drift of PPG for detection of SpO(2) and heart rate. Accordingly an application software is developed which is compatible with all IPHONE and most of Android mobile, making it feature higher peripheral adaptability and stronger environmental protection, which outperform the existing similar products.
