The results of the performance analysis of a long-base laser interferometer deformograph (LID) are presented. For the classical Benioff formulas describing transformation of the Earth's surface displacements into its deformations, limitations imposed on the length of a deformograph and the frequency of the registered signal are found. The response forms for arbitrarily oriented deformograph components for different relations between seismic-wave parameters, wave polarizations, and types are obtained for the first time. A new basic scheme of a multicomponent LID with spatially separated measuring arms is proposed, and its performance is analyzed. Practical implementation of the results are considered, as well as experimental realization of the devices.
