Relationships are Presented that describe distortions of the electromagnetic -pulse envelope; the fill- ing frequency of this pulse lies within the limits of the frequency interval occupied by a solitary spectral line of one of the atmospheric gaseous components. Widening of the line due to intermolecular collisions or the Dop- pler effect is analyzed, which allows one to consider propagation of pulses in the middle atmosphere. It is shown that, at sufficiently large distances from a radiator, the pulse energy decays much slower than the exponential dependence.
