Measurement of Dielectric Properties of Frozen Sand in the Centimeter-Wave Band

摘要

The results of the relative permittivity measurements of frozen sand in the range of wavelengths from 6 to 0.8 cm are presented. It is shown that frozen sand cannot be regarded as a homogeneous and isotropic medium when measuring its dielectric properties. The electric anisotropy and inhomogeneity may be associated with the directional freezing of samples, redistribution of moisture in the medium, and the appearance of local mechanical stresses. Therefore, the results of earlier measurements should be used with care.
