摘要

The July issue of Journal of Communication Inquiry offers a range of interesting and significant articles. In "LinkedIn is my office; Facebook my living room, Twitter the neighborhood bar": Media scholars'' liminal use of social media for peer and public communication, Victoria LaPoe, Candi Carter Olson, and Stine Eckert examine the ways academics use social media to professionally engage with peers and the public. They found that while academics use social media to promote academic work, and as a communication and mentoring tool, social media can also be both an aid and a hindrance to careers as academics seek balance between personal and professional expressions online. LaPoe, Olson, and Eckert conclude that academics are operating in a state of "in-between-ness" in relation to social media: a state from which clear rules could eventually emerge.
