摘要

One of the important properties of black basecoats is jetness. This jetness results from defloccu-lated carbon black pigments, the diameter of which is much less than 100 nm. Currently, the carbon black pigment dispersions for waterborne systems are made with a dry grinding process, which involves two-roll milling. Although we know that this dry grinding process is better in obtaining high jetness than a wet grinding process, we have not clearly understood why. Without understanding the basic mechanism of deflocculation with the dry grinding, further formulation and process improvement will be limited.
