The Palgrave Handbook of Local Governance in Contemporary China

摘要

Although the reform era created space for society to participate in economic development, the space was lacking in local governance. This book analyses the development of local governance in contemporary China. Two important foci in the volume are: first, to identify the distinctiveness and similarities in local governance with Western governance theories; and second, to analyze how local government officials interact with non-governmental actors and how civil society responds to inequality and rights violations in governance.
