John Knight and Sai Ding, China's Remarkable Economic Growth

In the past half century, many Asian economies grew rapidly but could not sustain this growth. The People's Republic of China (PRC) is an exception even though it is a heavily populated and poorly resourced country. China has maintained an average 9 percent growth since the 1980s. This remarkable achievement started in the wake of structural reforms and opening up of the economy under the reformists led by Deng Xiaoping. This book addresses the questions of how and why reform happened, and if the PRC's growth can be sustained.
