Material characteristics and electric properties of SiO x -doped GDC electrolytes

摘要

Gadolinia-doped ceria (GDC) solid electrolytes with small additions (0.25 wt.%) of SiO X as sintering aids were prepared by the sol-gel method. Material characteristics of the prepared and calcined electrolyte samples were identified by X-ray diffraction for crystalline structures and scanning electron microscopy for surface morphology and microstructures. Based on materials characteristics, the preparation route of adding SiO X as sintering aid in GDC electrolytes lowers the sintering temperature of the densification process for the application of solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs). Adding SiO X also increases the relative density of the bulk electrolyte and the total conductivity.
