Perspectives: The history of the cellular slime moulds as a 'model system' for Developmental biology

摘要

My main object here is to make some observations on the role played by slime moulds in the study of deve- lopment. However, before I begin I would like to make a few broad generalizations about developmental biology in this century; generalizations that would probably cause a historian of science to faint. Evolution, cell biology, biochemistry and developmental Biology have made extraordinary progress in the last Hundred years-much of it since I was weaned on Schoolboy biology in the 1930's.
