Modeling with Data

This book covers fundamental statistical topics in a fairly basic setting and is aimed at graduate students and independent researchers, either as a supplement to a standard first-year statistics text or for later study. However, unlike most introductory texts, these topics are treated in a context of computer programming and processing real data. The author extensively motivates his choice for using the C language rather than the more often seen higher level languages such as Mathematica, Matlab or R, mainly claiming that the availability of libraries (such as Apophenia and the GNU scientific library) allow one to work at a similar level of abstraction, while maintaining the computational speed that allows working with large data sets.
