Paramagnetic Resonance Measurements of Exchange Interactions

A brief survey is given of some paramagnetic resonance experiments on exchange coupled pairs of paramagnetic ions in magnetically dilute crystals. The spin Hamiltonian for a pair of coupled spins Si, Si is first discussed. Then the effects observed in the paramagnetic resonance spectrum are outlined. Finally, there is a more detailed discussion of results found for nearest neighbor and next-nearest neighbor pairs of Mn2+ ions in Mn, MgO, followed by a short account of some preliminary results on nearest neighbor pairs of Mn2+ ions in Mn, ZnF2.
