High-temperature Hall measurements of lanthanide based ternary intermetallics

The authors performed high-temperature Hall measurements on hexagonal LaPdSb and GdPdSb and cubic ErPdSb, GdPdBi, and ErPdBi to investigate the difference among the thermoelectric properties. The thermal excitation of carriers and T~(-3/2) dependence of carrier mobility due to acoustic phonon scattering were observed. For the cubic compounds, the carrier concentration rather than the effective mass affects the magnitude of the thermoelectric power. High carrier mobility due to the long carrier relaxation time in spite of the large effective mass is realized in hexagonal LaPdSb, leading to the quite high power factor (=S~2/ρ; S: thermoelectric power, ρ: electrical resistivity).
