Eight Acupuncture Methods for Headache on Syndrome Differentiation in Clinic

Headache is a common symptom in clinic, which often occurs alone or in many acute and chronic diseases. In Yi Bian, it was said that the head is the room storing lucid yang, and if the six external pathogenic factors invade the head from the outside, or the pathogens in the six Fu-organs and meridians flow reversely, the clear qi in the head will be disturbed causing headache; in treating headache it is necessary to differentiate the internal factors and external factors, deficiency syndrome and excess syndrome. The head is the confluence of all the yang meridians and the sea of the marrow, which is the place gathering the essence from the five Zang-organs and the six Fu-organs. As the six external pathogenic factors invade the head, the flowing of the lucid yang is blocked by the pathogenic factors and head will be painful. All kinds of disorders may cause the qi and blood disturbed or the meridian obstructed, and the head is innutrient, resulting in headache. So we should treat headache after judging the conditions of diseases in the Zang-organs or the Fu-organs, in the qi or in the blood according to the deficiency syndrome, excess syndrome, cold syndrome, heat syndrome, exterior syndrome or interior syndrome.
