ACCESS ANSWERS: A DIGEST OF LISTSERVS OF INTEREST TO ACCESS SERVICES

Stephanie Schulte, Circulation Services Manager at the Cedar Rapids (IA) Public Library, queried CIRCPLUS on two matters. One thing she wanted to know was if there were any libraries that suspended the circulation privileges of children when their parents had overdues. The only person who responded to this question directly said that he thought the idea was ludicrous. In his opinion it made as much sense as holding the children responsible for their parents' speeding tickets. One responder did touch on the subject of kids with lost books. She said that after a child lost a book she negotiated a payment plan and limited the number of books they could check out to two. But she was reluctant to end their circulation privileges altogether because she believed that for the long term it was important that they have positive experiences in libraries.
