Carrier Ford completes Combat Systems Ship's Qualification Trials

The US Navy (USN) aircraft carrier USS Gerald R Ford(CVN 78) and its crew have completed Combat Systems Ship's Qualification Trials (CSSQT), the service confirmed on 24 April. CSSQT is the culminating combat systems test for first-of-class Ford's 18 month post-delivery test and trials (PDT&T) phase of operations. Following PDT&T, Ford will start final preparations for Full-Ship Shock Trials (FSST), which are scheduled to occur by the end of the third quarter, according to USN officials. The FSST will validate Ford's ability to carry out assigned missions and evaluate operational survivability after exposure to an underwater shock. CSSQT commenced in February, ran the ship through five phases of testing, and ended with the final 2C phase on 17 April. CSSQT's completion represents "a major milestone in validating the ship's capability to defend itself and the crew," USN officials noted.
