Seeing is believing: US expands efforts to modernise warfighter vision systems

The US Army is undertaking numerous research activities to find new, or enhanced, systems to detect and identify targets farther on the battlefield and to maintain situational understanding. A major objective of the research is to reduce size, weight, power, and cost (SWaP-C) with new systems.Much of the work is led by the army's Research, Development, and Engineering Command (RDECOM) and is being conducted at the service's Night Vision and Electronic Sensors Directorate (NVESD) at Fort Belvoir in Virginia. This facility is often the starting point for research and development of night-vision (NV) systems and sensors for ground and air forces.
