Thyssen-Krupp Marine Systems (TKMS) of Germany acquired Brazilian privately owned shipbuilder Estateiro Oceana on 20 May, the company has told Janes. TKMS declined to provide the value of the deal. The shipbuilder was purchased by the Brazilian subsidiary of TKMS, Thyssenkrupp Marine Systems do Brasil, from Alianca, which is part of the local conglomerate Grupo CBO. Estaleiro Oceana is slated to build fourTamandare-class light, multipurpose frigates for the Brazilian Navy from 2021, with ship commis-sionings scheduled to take place between 2025 and 2028. The Aguas Azuis company formed by TKMS, Embraer Defesa & Segu-ranca, and Atech Negocios em Tecn-ologias was awarded a BRL9.1 billion contract by Empresa Gerencial de Projetos Navais (EMGEPRON) on 5 March to build the ships.
